Have you ever noticed that Dan seems to favor mirror shots? Remember the multi-pane shot of Delphine Seyrig from Last Year at Marienbad? How about the murderer (Robert Walker) strangling the woman (Laura Elliot) in the amusement park, from Strangers on a Train? That scene was brilliantly composed by Hitchcock and his cinematographer, Robert Burks, so that the murderous act was presented indirectly, as a reflection against the lens of a pair of eyeglasses. More recently, during Halloween, the quiz master chose a shot from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, where Miriam Hopkins sees the reflection of Mr. Hyde approaching her dressing table. What a terrible and frightening vision! And finally, do you recall the picture of the woman adjusting her disguise before a mirror, in January 2000's first quiz? Sorry, I can't tell you what the name of that movie is yet (even though I know it). You'll just have to wait until Saturday, Jan. 8. In keeping with this theme, I submit for your consideration, the above movie. The man in the background is holding a gun. He believes his girlfriend has been unfaithful to him. Furthermore, he favors a new woman (Sheila Ryan), someone with more class than the trollop he's been involved with. Jane Randolph plays the vulnerable (and rejected) blonde girlfriend. Anthony Mann, the master of budget noir, directed the movie. Give up? The title in reverse is: dedaorliaR
