It's not a coincidence that the character in the top screen shot looks
like Michael Jackson. In fact, one might say that Michael patterned
himself after the cartoon character. This is a case of life imitating
art, by a professed Beatlemaniac. Many of the younger players were able
to figure out the movie, even though most of us were weaned on TV
animation (South Park), and anime. But even if you didn't
recognize it right away, you can still narrow down the possibilities
using the aspect ratio, which is 1.66:1 for this feature film. DVD
Express or DVD Planet are
good sources for looking up the aspect ratios of animated films on DVD.
But I have an even better source, which
includes both DVDs and LDs. There may be errors in the list I compiled,
and possibly omissions. But it's better than any other list I could find
on the internet. So the next time Dan or Matt or yours truly guest hosts
a quiz, and you see a 1.66:1 animated film, you should realize that your
choices are essentially limited to Beauty and the Beast, Ferngully-
the Last Rainforest, Hercules, Lion King, Lion King
II, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, Lupin
III, Oliver & Company, Pocahontas, The Rescuers,
Roujin-z, Watership Down, the Roger Rabbit Shorts, Tarzan,
or Yellow Submarine. If Dan ever does a 2.35:1 aspect ratio
cartoon, the choices are even fewer. So, look out for The Iron Giant.
It's coming soon.

Notes: The key to getting the bonus
question correct this week was recognizing that the Yellow Submarine is
reflected on the lens of the mod character's goggles. If you were lazy
and did not cue up the scene (or watch the movie trailer), then you
missed the trick question. The sub literally floats past the viewer.
Finally, do you know which animated films feature a walrus, a woodpecker,
or a seagull? Then you better do some brushing up before the next quiz.
